Introduction: India is a land of festivals. Diwali is one of the most important and famous festivals of Hindus. It is called the festival of lights.

Why it is celebrated: It is celebrated to mark the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile. It marks the victory of light over darkness and good over evil.

How it is celebrated: People clean and whitewash their houses. On the day of Diwali, they decorate their homes with lamps (diyas), candles, and flowers. Children burst crackers. People wear new clothes and exchange sweets.

Conclusion: Diwali brings joy and happiness. However, we should avoid bursting loud crackers to prevent pollution. We should celebrate an eco-friendly Diwali.

English is an international language. It is spoken and understood all over the world. In India, it acts as a link language connecting people from different states. English is essential for higher education in science, medicine, and engineering. It is the language of the internet and computers. Answer: The story conveys that fear is the biggest obstacle to success. One must conquer fear to achieve anything. The young seagull was afraid to fly, but when hunger compelled him to dive for food, his wings spread automatically. It teaches us that we should trust our abilities and take the first step courageously.

Answer: The inauguration took place in the Union Buildings amphitheater in Pretoria. It was attended by dignitaries from all over the world. South African jets and helicopters flew over the Union Buildings, displaying the new flag. It symbolized the end of apartheid and the birth of a new democratic nation where everyone is equal.

Why does the poet say "I would not intrude on him" in 'The Ball Poem'?

How does the poem 'Animals' describe the human condition?

Answer: The poet does not want to interfere or offer him a new ball because he wants the boy to learn the lesson of responsibility. Losing the ball is an opportunity for the boy to understand the nature of loss and how to cope with it. Money or a new ball cannot replace the memories attached to the lost one.

Answer: The poet Walt Whitman suggests that humans have become complicated and false. They are always complaining about their condition, committing sins, and weeping over them. They are dissatisfied and mad about owning things (materialism). They kneel to others, showing a lack of self-respect. Animals, in contrast, are calm and self-contained.

How did the book 'Mother Goose' save the earth?

Answer: Mrs. Pumphrey was a rich and emotional lady. She loved her dog, Tricki, very much but spoiled him by overfeeding. She gave him cream cakes, chocolates, and wine, which made him ill. She was ignorant about dog care but was kind-hearted. She was very grateful to the doctor when Tricki recovered, calling it a "triumph of surgery".

Answer: The Martians planned to invade Earth. Their leader, Think-Tank, tried to decipher the code of the book 'Mother Goose'. He misinterpreted the nursery rhymes. For example, he thought 'Humpty Dumpty' was him and that humans were planning to break him. Scared by these rhymes, he cancelled the invasion and fled to Alpha Centauri.

2. My Best Friend

Introduction: A friend in need is a friend indeed. I have many friends but Rahul is my best friend.

Qualities: He is honest, kind, and intelligent. He always helps me in my studies. He respects elders and teachers.

Why I like him: He never tells a lie. We play together in the evening. He has a good sense of humor.

Conclusion: I am proud of him. May our friendship live long.

3. A Visit to a Historical Place

Introduction: Last month, I visited the Taj Mahal in Agra. It is one of the seven wonders of the world.

Description: It was built by Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. It is made of white marble. It looks beautiful in the moonlight.

Experience: There were many fountains and gardens. I was spellbound by its beauty. It is a symbol of love.

Conclusion: It was a memorable trip. I learnt a lot about Mughal architecture.

4. Clean India Mission (Swachh Bharat Abhiyan)

Introduction: Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was launched by PM Narendra Modi on 2nd October 2014.

Aim: Its aim is to make India clean and free from open defecation. It focuses on building toilets and waste management.

Our Duty: We should not throw garbage on roads. We should use dustbins and plant trees.

Conclusion: A clean India will be a healthy India. We all must contribute to this mission.
